Online CoWork is a project founded by Hayley Wood from South Africa.
Hayley has been working online for many years and is the creator of the popular Ladies Coffee and Co-Working Sessions in Chiang Mai, Thailand and a ladies co-living space in the beautiful, snowy Himalayas in India.
She has travelled to over 40 countries and achieved her dream of standing on all 7 continents at just 33 years old. She has an Honours Degree in Biomolecular Technology - a triple major of biochemistry, genetics and microbiology - where she graduated summa cum laude in the top percentage of students her university. She also holds a post-graduate diploma in Nutritional Medicine and multiple certificates in Online Marketing.
Soon after graduating from university, she headed to the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador where she worked as a naturalist guide - a job that entailed being the only female staff member at a prestigious lodge there. Her curiosity then landed her a job at a lodge in Peru and then Scotland.
She worked as an English instructor at a private academy in South Korea after that while using her vacation time to see as much of the world as she could manage.
Her highlights include:
Given that she always thought that travel was completely out of her reach, she is a testament to the power of courage and never giving up on your dreams.
“Yes, I could have just become a Biochemist in a 9 to 5 position. Or I could be out there exploring, learning about the world, trying new things and extending my comfort zone… I decided on the second option. It’s not always pretty to take the road less travelled, but it is for sure the most rewarding. I hope that Online CoWork can inspire others to do the same.”
She credits her travels as her best education and they were ultimately responsible for introducing her to the world of working online.
Her first taste of working online was when she landed a job as a remote recruiting manager for one of the top ESL Recruiting Agencies in England. For this position, she had to interview hundreds of candidates through Skype and coordinate with the Colombian government to place candidates in government schools there; as well as in private schools in Japan, Ecuador, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
Throughout her life though, she has noticed that many women (especially moms who may have given up their own dreams to focus on their children; or women who are stuck in a 9 to 5 job that they don’t enjoy) crave more freedom and purpose in their lives.
With the help of the internet, we now have a tool that can help us to achieve just that.
And so Online CoWork was born - a movement that connects ladies from all over the world.
